Phyllis Joyce Musser, 90, of Mont Alto, PA, passed away on Sunday, February 11, 2024 at the Chambersburg Hospital. Born November 3, 1933 in Kent County, Canterbury, England, she was the daughter, of the late John William Constable and Mary Louise (Dyson) Cuckney.
Phyllis was the owner/operator of PL Musser Cleaning. She cleaned for many medical offices and businesses in the area for many years. Having been born in England, Phyllis lived through the bombing of Canterbury by Germany in World War II. She met her husband, Charles S. Musser, Jr., while he was serving in the US Air Force at Manson Air Force Base. They were married in Margate, England on May 18, 1957. After she was married she moved to the United States and started their life together. She was a very talented and artistic woman and enjoyed painting, knitting, playing piano and singing. She was also an accomplished seamstress, having made many of her children’s and grandchildren’s clothes and also doll clothes. Phyllis was an active member of the community. She served as a Girl Scout leader, taught Sunday School at her church and was involved with the Mont Alto Little Art Gallery. Phyllis was a member of the Independent Bible Baptist Church in Mont Alto. Her joy was spending time with her family.
She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Charles S. Musser, Jr.; one daughter, Linda A. Shumway of Mont Alto; two grandchildren, Matthew Shumway of Spokane, WA, and Megan Shumway of Mont Alto; six great grandchildren, Jaylynne, Myresha, Jenayah, Miraylyn, Kayonah, and KaVeon; two great-great grandchildren, Ariah and Aaliyah; and her sister, Sandra Whiteman of Kent County, Margate, England. Aside from her parents, Phyllis is preceded in death by her son, Charles S. Musser III; infant brother, Steven Roy Cuckney; her step-father, Arthur Roy Cuckney; and her son-in-law, Peter S. Shumway.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, February 15, 2024 in the chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA 17202. Rev. Barry T. Shank will officiate. Interment will follow the service in Mont Alto Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Thursday at the funeral home.
