Phyllis Wheeler Westerfield, age 84, of Chambersburg, PA passed away of natural causes on Monday, January 24, 2022, at Menno Village. Born July 28, 1937, in Louisville, KY, she was the daughter of the late Raymond and Margaret Parsons Wheeler.
Phyllis retired from the United States Postal Service, where she served with meritorious service for 22 years. She began her career as a Rural Letter Carrier and retired as a clerk. Phyllis was a member of the Missionary Alliance Church of Chambersburg, PA. Phyllis, and her late husband John, enjoyed serving with SOWER (Servants on Wheels Ever Ready) projects while they traveled full time in their Airstream for ten years.
Surviving is her daughter, Tonjah “Toni” Westerfield of Bradenton, FL; her son, Jeffrey C. Westerfield (Katherine) of Selma, NC; nine grandchildren, Cassandra Leggett Brett, Shannon Leggett Burkett (Michael), Johnathan Leggett, Erin Leggett Hajdu (Tibor), Jason Westerfield (Mollie), Matthew Westerfield (Danielle), Benjamin Westerfield (Jennifer), Aaron Westerfield (Janel), and Katelyn Westerfield (Danny Cunningham); nineteen great-grandchildren, Kathleen, Adriana, Collin, Aliah, Kaiya, Liliana, Jozsef, Tatum, Teegan, Carson, Levi, Amelia, Florence, Matilda, Lucille, Edith, Hannah, and Darcie; brother Raymond Wheeler (Cheryl) and her sister-in-law, Patsy Wigington. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John C. Westerfield on October 9, 2021, whom she married September 16, 1955, a son, Curtis Westerfield and sister Wanda Perry.
Graveside service and internment will be held July 2022 at Evergreen Cemetery in Louisville, KY. Arrangements are entrusted to the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, Chambersburg, PA. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to the Menno Haven Benevolent Fund, 2011 Scotland Avenue, or to the Christian Missionary Alliance Church, 230 Siloam Road, both in Chambersburg, PA 17201.
