R. Edward Whetstone

R. Edward Whetstone, 81, of Chambersburg, PA, passed away Wednesday morning, December 30, 2015 at his home. Born June 20, 1934 in Bedford, PA, he was a son of the late Harold S. and Gladys E. (Diehl) Whetstone. He was a 1952 graduate of the Bedford High School. Ed was employed for thirty five years with Pennelec, retiring as an ET&S lineman in March of 1993. He was a member of the Newburg United Methodist Church and was attending Solomon’s United Church of Christ in Chambersburg. Ed was a member of the Utilities Union. He enjoyed camping, traveling, woodworking, hunting, gardening, and horseback riding and was known as a general handyman by his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife, Wilma C. (Kegg) Whetstone, whom he married January 24, 1953; four daughters, Sondra Connor of Millville, DE, Deborah Cantaral of Dubois, PA, Denise Oliveira of Highland, IL, and Etta Rotz and husband Rick of Chambersburg; eight grandchildren, Patrick Connor, Ellen Cantaral, Micah Cantaral, Karina Oliveira, Anthony Oliveira, Nathan Oliveira, Jessica (Rotz) Pilgrim and husband Brandon, and Nicholas Rotz; and a great-granddaughter, Brooklyn Pilgrim. He is also survived by four sisters, Florence Ritchey, June Mountain, Mary Ann Barger, and Margaret Wachter; as well as two brothers, Samuel Lee and Clyde Whetstone. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Fernando Oliveira; two grandsons, Neyland Cantaral and Daniel Oliveira; two brothers, David and Harry Whetstone; and a sister, Mildred Harr.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, January 5, 2016 in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA. Rev. Peter Emig will officiate. Interment will follow at Parklawns Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 PM Monday and one hour prior to the service on Tuesday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to SpiriTrust Lutheran Home Care and Hospice, 2700 Luther Drive, Chambersburg, PA 17202.
