R. Lee Wadel, 87, of Chambersburg, PA, passed away Monday, December 19, 2022 at the Chambersburg Hospital. Born December 15, 1935 in Greene Township, Franklin County, PA, he was a son of the late Reuben A. and Bernice Pisle Wadel. Lee was a member of the Mt. Pleasant Church where he served as a Lay Leader, Sunday school teacher, Board member, and various other offices. A 1953 graduate of the Chambersburg High School he continued his education by completing an apprentice program at Frick Company in Waynesboro, PA in 1958. He worked for Frick Company for 46 ½ years retiring January 1, 2001. Lee also took accredited courses at local colleges. Lee was a charter member of the Frick Credit Union (Neighbors 1st) of Waynesboro, PA. He served as a Board member and also on other credit union committees. His hobbies were wood working, gardening, and his lawn and flower beds.
He is survived by his wife, Frances L. Unger Wadel, whom he married July 16, 1961; two daughters, Kim Mann (David) of Lebanon, PA and Carla Cook (Jeffrey) of Chambersburg; four grandchildren, Lauren Silva of Waldorf, MD, Adam Cook of Westmont, NJ, Heather Cook of Coatesville, PA, and Jordan Mann of Palmyra; two great-grandchildren, Xander Peters and Wyatt Mann; and a brother, Ralph A. Wadel of Scotland, PA. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a step-brother, Marlin Pisle.
A service to celebrate Lee’s life will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, December 23, 2022 at Mt. Pleasant United Brethren Church, Chambersburg, PA. Rev. Gary Culler and Chaplain Rick Ritenour will officiate. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service and immediately following the service on Friday at the church.
