Rachel Elizabeth Boyer, 80, of Chambersburg, PA, passed away Saturday morning, December 28, 2013 at her home. Born October 15, 1933 in Chambersburg, she was a daughter of the late Russell M. and Edna E. Smith Fields. A graduate of the former Chambersburg High School, Mrs. Boyer was a devoted housewife and talented seamstress. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Chambersburg; a member of the former South Penn Area Rose Society; and a member of the Chambersburg Garden Club where she was a designer and winner of the club’s coveted “Beatrice Wolf Trophy” on two occasions. Her hobbies included crocheting, gardening, and growing roses.
She is survived by her husband, Harold A. Boyer; two sons, David L. Boyer, Sr. and wife Evelyn of Spring Run, and Daniel L. Boyer and wife Ann of Falling Waters, WV; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a sister, Helen Trail of Chambersburg; and a daughter-in-law, Carrie Boyer of Greencastle. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Rodney W. Boyer of Greencastle; and a sister, Ruth Anna Fogelsanger.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Tuesday, December 31, 2013 in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA with Rev. Donald C. Nolder and Rev. Dianne B. Salter officiating. Interment will follow at Upper Path Valley Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Tuesday.
