Ralph H. Benedict, 83, of Waynesboro, PA, passed away Monday morning, January 31, 2022 at The Shook Home in Chambersburg. Born August 14, 1938 in Waynesboro, he was the son of the late Henry M. and Hazel L. Strite Benedict. Ralph was a 1956 graduate of the former Quincy High School and served for one year with the National Guard. Early in his life he had been employed by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and then at Nitterhouse Concrete, Fairchild Industries, Grove Manufacturing, Maryland Ribbon Company, Environmental Air Control, and Schwan’s Foods. He retired in 2013 from Ventura Foods after 23 years of employment. He attended Five Forks Church and was a member of Charles Nitterhouse Post 1599 VFW, Burt J. Asper Post 46 American Legion, and the Marine Corps League. He served as a baseball umpire and chapter scheduler for the South Penn Chapter Umpires Association with PIAA, the American Legion, and the Franklin County Adult League. A car enthusiast and an avid bowler, he had worked part-time for many years at Nellie Fox Bowl. He formerly served as President of the Interstate Traveling Bowling League. Ralph enjoyed sports and was a fan of the New York Yankees, Penn State, the Washington Redskins, and the Pittsburgh Steelers. His wife, Linda Diane Miskowski Benedict, who he married November 26, 1993, preceded him in death on April 24, 2020.
He is survived by four children, Terra Thompson and husband Ben of Waynesboro, Michael M. Benedict and wife Anne of Chambersburg, Mickey M. Benedict and wife Missy of Chambersburg, and Todd R. Benedict and significant other Patricia Black of Waynesboro; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents and wife he was preceded in death by his sister, Rebecca Kinter.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM Friday, February 4, 2022 at Five Forks Church, Waynesboro, PA. Pastor Bill Shank will officiate. Interment will follow at Green Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from Noon until services begin at 1:00 PM Friday at the church.
