Ralph A. Derk, 96, of Chambersburg, PA, died Monday, July 1, 2013 at Menno Haven Retirement Community. He was born October 18, 1916 in Paxinos, PA. A 1934 graduate of the Shamokin High School, Mr. Derk worked as the owner/operator of the Butcher Boy Market in Treverton, PA until his retirement in 1975. After his retirement, Ralph moved to Largo FL, where he lived for 33 years. He was a member of Highland Presbyterian Church in Largo, FL, Shamokin Lodge #255 F & AM in Shamokin, PA, and the Treverton, PA Odd Fellows.
He is survived by his children; Kenneth Derk and wife Suzan of Chambersburg, PA, and Bonnie D. Hepler, wife of the late Edwin Hepler, of Allentown, PA; four grandchildren, Carrie Derk of Chambersburg, Robert Derk and wife Nicole of Ft. Bragg NC, Bryson Hepler and wife Susan of Tewksbury, MA, and Susan Hartman and husband Michael of Middletown, MD; and four great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife, Goldie C. Lesher Derk, four brothers; Ed Derk, Fred, Bill, and Bob Haas; and one sister, Mae Rakoski.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, July 13, 2013 in the Peifer’s Church, 337 Mandata Rd, Herndon, PA 17830. Rev. Richard Sweppenheiser will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Herndon Camp Grove, c/o Barry Beilharz, 2046 Rt.225, Herndon, PA 17830.
