Ralph F. Dice, Jr., 72, of Chambersburg, passed away on Wednesday, January 9, 2019 at the Chambersburg Hospital. Born May 14, 1946 in Chambersburg, he was a son of Jean M. Lowry Dice and the late Ralph F. Dice, Sr. His beloved wife, Patricia Cornell Kroeplin Dice, preceded him in death on January 24, 1993.
Ralph attended Waynesboro High School and graduated from Greencastle – Antrim High School in 1964. He earned his bachelor’s degree in journalism from East Texas State University. A US Air Force veteran, Ralph served honorably in Vietnam where he was deployed during the Tet offensive. After his discharge, Ralph was employed with All Outdoors Magazine. He was later employed with several different newspapers as an editor until his retirement in 2011 from the Temple Daily Telegram. An avid Civil War historian, Ralph enjoyed visiting many different battlefields. He also enjoyed hiking, photography and researching family genealogy. He had a great sense of humor and loved his family, especially his nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by six siblings, Kathy Stine and husband Les of Chambersburg, Laura James of Huntington, IN, Carol Sanders and husband Rick of Chambersburg, Alan Dice and wife Cathy of Forest Hill, MD, David Dice and wife Sue of Chambersburg and Julie Wynn and husband Tim of Wiesbaden, Germany; numerous nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, January 14, 2019 at King Street Church, 162 E. King Street, Chambersburg, PA 17201. Rev. Lester F. Stine and Rev. Ronald Cook will officiate. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Arrangements are entrusted to Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, Chambersburg, PA. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Monterey Pass Battlefield Park, Allison-Antrim Museum, Inc., or to King Street Church.
