Ralph Flory

Ralph Leo Flory, Jr., 65, of Smoketown Road, Fayetteville, passed away on Saturday, December 3, 2011 in his home while surrounded by his family. Born on September 19, 1946 in Chambersburg, he was a son of the late Ralph L. Flory Sr. and Lodema Mae Green Flory.

A 1964 graduate of the Chambersburg Area Senior High School, Ralph served his country with the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Conflict. He retired in 2008 from Letterkenny Army Depot, with 37 years of service. He was a former President of the Scotland Youth League, former coach for the Fayetteville Browns, and formerly involved with the Chambersburg Cardinals during the 1970’s and 1980’s. He attended Otterbein United Methodist Church in Fayetteville, and was a member of the George Washington Lodge 146 F&AM, South Mountain Fish and Game, Letterkenny Rod and Gun Club, and the VFW Post 1599. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed taking his grandchildren hunting and fishing, attending local sporting events, blue grass music, and observing his Purple Martins.

Ralph is survived by his wife 40 years, Judith A. Davis Flory , whom he married on February 14, 1971; four children, Tomy G. Griffith (and wife, Gina) of Shippensburg, Tami A. Griffith Moore (and husband, Terry) of Greencastle, Ralph L. Flory III (and wife, Angelique) of Newville, and Dawn R. Flory Hunt (and husband, Ed) of Chambersburg; two brothers Donald Flory of Delta, PA and Kenneth Flory of Chambersburg; one sister, Treva Reiner of Shippensburg; 10 grandchildren, Erica, Ashley, Tara, Keri, Madeleine, Brady, Brennan, Tanner, Brady, and Bryce; and one great granddaughter, Kali G. Coons. Aside from his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers, Cliff and Robert, and a sister, Betty Mellott.


Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 8, 2011 at 1 PM in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Rd., Chambersburg, PA 17202.
Rev. Michael Baumgardner will officiate. Interment will follow in Parklawns Memorial Gardens, where members of the Charles Nitterhouse VFW Post 1599 Honor Guard will conduct military graveside honors. The family will receive friends from 6-9 PM on Wednesday; and one hour prior to the funeral on Thursday in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his name to the John L. and Cora I. Grove Cancer Center, 755 Norland Ave., suite 100, Chambersburg, PA 17201.
