Ray Lewis Ankerbrand, 73, of Chambersburg, passed away on Friday morning, November 16, 2018 at his home. Born December 4, 1944 in Chambersburg at the Maternity Home on Fifth Avenue, he was a son of the late Harry and Margaret Chronister Ankerbrand.

Having never resided outside of the Borough of Chambersburg, Ray lived in two different places in his life; his home on North Franklin Street and his present home on Nelson Street. Ray was a 1962 graduate of CASHS and a veteran of the US Army Reserves during the Vietnam Era. Ray was employed as a manager at Ankerbrand Lumber Company, Owner/Operator of Ankerbrand Concrete Service, he was a licensed Real Estate Agent, a Rural Mail Carrier with the U.S. Postal Service for 23 years until his retirement in 2005, and during retirement delivered flowers for Plasterer’s Florist. Ray was a very active member of the community. He was a member of King Street Church where he served as a Sunday School teacher, lay leader of the church, member of the Board of Administration and Delegate to the annual conference. He was a choir member, soloist and was a member of the King’s Ambassadors Quartet. He also served as president of the Franklin County Homebuilder’s Association, treasurer of the Pennsylvania Conference and Mid-Atlantic Conference of the United Brethren Church, treasurer and board member of the Rhodes Grove Camp and treasurer of the Pennsylvania Rural Letter Carriers Association.

Ray enjoyed volunteering as a bus driver for Camp Joy El, Child Evangelism Fellowship, Rhodes Grove Camp and Conference Center and King Street Church. He went on one mission trip to Jamaica and four or five to Honduras. He also drove a bus and van with four other people the whole way to Honduras to donate it to a church there. Ray loved interacting with people. He also enjoyed all kinds of music and woodworking.

A loving husband, father and grandfather, Ray is survived by his wife of 46 years, Linda Burkholder Ankerbrand, whom he married on December 19, 1971; three children, Heather Ann Ankerbrand of Stephens City, VA, Allyson Lynn Holbrook and husband Michael of Stoutsville, OH, and Jason Ray Ankerbrand and wife Meredith of Greencastle, PA; six grandchildren, Kaiden, Eli and Liliana Ankerbrand and Olivia, Victoria and Leo Holbrook; and his brother, Harry “Sonny” Ankerbrand and wife Sondra of Bel Air, MD. In addition to his parents Ray was preceded in death by five siblings, George Ankerbrand, Helen Bishop, Mae Byers, Louise Basinger and Shelby Hull.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, November 21, 2018 at King Street Church, 162 E. King Street, Chambersburg, PA 17201. Rev. Ronald Cook and Rev. Lester Stine will officiate. Interment will follow the service in St. Thomas Cemetery where military graveside honors will be provided by the VFW Post 1599 Honor Guard. The family will receive friends from 6 – 8 PM on Tuesday evening at the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA and one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday. Flowers would be appreciated but donations may be made to the Organ Fund at King Street Church.
