Ray E. Hughes, Jr., 58, of Heath, Ohio and formerly of Chambersburg, died unexpectedly on Friday, August 28, 2015 at Grant Medical Center, Columbus, OH. Born October 1, 1956 in Chambersburg, he was a son of Ray E. Hughes, Sr. of Chambersburg and the late Betty Virginia Holtry Hughes. A 1976 graduate of the Chambersburg Area Senior High School, Ray was employed for a number of years at the former Hennessey Company and the former Leonard Granite Company, both in Chambersburg. He then worked in several area grocery stores including the former County Market and Save-A-Center. He was currently employed with Wal-Mart, where he has worked for the past 20 years. Ray had attended the Chambersburg First Church of God. An avid outdoorsman and sports fan, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and football. He played baseball while in school and enjoyed playing for several area softball teams throughout his lifetime.
In addition to his father, he is survived by his son, Chris D. Hughes and wife Kelly; his step-son Matthew Brenneman; four grandchildren, Brady, Wesley, Bryson, and Camden Hughes; a brother, Ronald Hughes; a sister Georgianna Rosenberry; his step-mother, Janet Bortner Hughes, all of Chambersburg; and his fiance, Lisa Ball of Heath, Ohio.
Funeral services will be held at 11:30AM Friday, September 4, 2015 in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA. Rev. Lawrence Metzler will officiate. Interment will follow at Salem Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 PM Thursday and one hour prior to the service on Friday at the funeral home.
