Ray A. Rotz, age 96 of Chambersburg, passed away on Thursday, June 29, 2017 at Village Square at Menno Haven. Born February 14, 1921 in Chambersburg, he was the son of the late Walter and Emma Ray Rotz.
A US Navy veteran of WWII, Mr. Rotz owned and operated The Minute Car Wash on Loudon St. in Chambersburg and the Countryside Laundromat in St. Thomas. Ray retired in 1976 and his son continued the car wash business, selling Minute Car Wash in 2001, and opening The Rain Tunnel the same year.
Ray was a member of the St. Thomas Lutheran Church, where he had served on the church council, as church secretary, and as chairman of the property committee for many years. He was a member of the American Legion, Detrich-Brechbill Post 612 in St.Thomas, George Washington Lodge #143 F & AM of PA, in Chambersburg, and a life member of the Charles Nitterhouse VFW Post 1599.
His hobbies included hunting, fishing, bowling, woodworking and spending time at the mountain cabin that he loved so much.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ethel Glass Rotz, in April of 2001. They had been married for 59 years. He also was preceded in death by 3 sisters, Evelyn Keller, Lois Dittman and Margaret McCleary.
He is survived by his son, Randall R. Rotz of Chambersburg; two granddaughters, Lori Edmondson and husband John of Chambersburg, and Suzanne Poe and husband Bill of Chambersburg; and 3 great grandsons, Hunter and Carter Edmondson and Ryan Todd, all of Chambersburg.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:30 PM on Wednesday, July 5, 2017 in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg. Rev. Randy Zeiler will officiate. Interment will follow in St. Thomas Cemetery where military graveside honors will be provided by members of the Charles Nitterhouse VFW Post 1599 Honor Guard. The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Thomas Lutheran Church Building Fund, 7061 Lincoln Way West, St. Thomas, PA 17252.
