Ray Shew

Ray Donald Shew, age 83, of Fayetteville, PA, passed away on Sunday, June 28, 2015, in Falling Spring Nursing and Rehab Center. Born February 26, 1932, in Guilford Springs, PA, he was the son of the late Garnet Shew and Pearl Cosey Shew Stoutamyer.
A 1950 graduate of the former Chambersburg High School, Ray went on to work as a maintenance mechanic for 44 years, with SKF in Shippensburg, PA, retiring in 1994. Ray served his country honorably in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. A gifted athlete, Ray played football and basketball locally, to include playing for the Chambersburg Cardinal’s in the 1950’s. He also enjoyed playing volleyball, boating, bowling, and golf. Ray was a man of few words and a good listener, he cherished time with his family; always looking forward to game nights with family and friends. As a grandfather, his most treasured pastime was attending his grandchildren’s events. He was a lifetime member of St. John’s U.C.C., the American Legion Post 612, Potomac Fish and Game Club, Chambersburg Fitness Center, and Falling Spring AARP 2840.
Surviving is his beloved wife of 56 years, Joanne Cormany Shew, whom he married on July 13, 1958; two daughters, Debra Rae Thomas (husband Steven) of Fayetteville, PA and Lisa Jo Singleton (husband Tim) of Harrisburg, PA; and twin grandchildren, Kara Rae Shipp (husband Ryan) of Chambersburg, PA and Evan William Thomas of Fayetteville, PA. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Eugene and Glen Shew.
A Memorial service will be held to honor Ray’s life on Wednesday, July 1, 2015, at 11 AM at St. John’s UCC Church, 1811 Lincoln Way East, Chambersburg, PA 17201; where Pastor Mark Ruzicka will officiate. The family will receive friends one-half hour prior to the service at the church. Inurnment will be private. Arrangements are entrusted to the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, Chambersburg, PA. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the above church and address.
