Ray Taylor

Ray Taylor, age 86, of Fayetteville, PA, passed away on Sunday, March 4, 2018, at Transitions Health Nursing Home in Gettysburg, PA. Born September 1, 1931 in Spartanburg, SC, he was the son of the late Lewis T. and Rosa Lee Phillips Taylor.

A United States Marine Veteran, Ray honorably served from 1952 to 1954. He then attended Fruitland Bible College in Hendersonville, NC. A minister most of his life, he served in various churches. He loved teaching men’s Sunday School classes, as well as singing bass in the church choir. He also worked at Ace Hardware in South Carolina. He was a devoted husband and enjoyed spending time with his wife, exploring the mountains of North Carolina.

He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Sharon Taylor, whom he married on June 8, 1991; as well as his son, Larry Taylor, step-children Sharon M. Thienes (husband Robert), of Pennsylvania, and Tom Harmon Jr. (wife Lucinda), of Alabama; and grandchildren Kaitlyn, Santana, Drew, and Amanda. In addition to his parents, Ray was preceded in death by his sister Lilly Bell Beason, and brother Albert C. Taylor.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, March 10, 2018, in the Chapel of the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Rd., Chambersburg, PA, 17202. Rev. Stephen Durr will officiate. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1:30 – 2:00 PM. Military honors will be presented by members of the Charles Nitterhouse Post 1599 VFW Honor Guard immediately following the service. The family will also have a memorial service in Ray’s hometown of Spartanburg, SC with Rev. Don Duncan officiating at a later date.
