Raymond L. Fisher, age 82, of Scotland, PA, passed away on Friday, June 14, 2013 in the Chambersburg Hospital. Born May 12, 1931 in Chambersburg, he was the son of the late Charles J. and Ida M. Ross Fisher.
A 1950 graduate of the Chambersburg High School, Mr. Fisher went on to attend the former Shippensburg State Teachers College for over 3 years. He joined the U.S. Army after graduating high school and served honorably during the Korean Conflict and continued his service in the Army Reserves and the Air National Guard, where he retired from the West Virginia Air National Guard’s 167th Airlift Wing after 26 years of service. His commitment to his country didn’t stop with his military service; he was also employed at Letterkenny Army Depot in LSSA for 30 years, where he retired in 1988. Mr. Fisher was a lifelong member of the Scotland United Methodist Church, a life member of the VFW Post 1599, American Legion Post 46, and The Chambersburg Club. He was also a member of the AMVETS Post 224, the George Washington Lodge #143, the Tall Cedars of Lebanon Valley Forest #145, where he was Past Grand Tall Cedar and Supreme Director, and a former member of the Chambersburg Country Club. He enjoyed golf, the History Channel, gardening, doing yard work, spending time with his family, photography, and the 17 winters he spent in Sebring, FL.
Surviving is his loving wife of 60 years, Marlene Shatzer Fisher, whom he married March 8, 1953; two sons, Gary L. Fisher of Winchester, VA and Lynn A. Fisher (wife Lynette) of Chambersburg, PA; five grandchildren, Nicholas Fisher (wife Shannon) of Winchester, VA, Jason Fisher (wife Jackie) of Fayetteville, PA, Erik Fisher (wife Ashley) of Winchester, VA, Jared Fisher of Chambersburg, PA, and Janelle Barkman (husband Travis) of Chambersburg, PA; four great grandchildren, Dilynn and Alyssa Fisher, Lane Fisher, and Brooklynn Barkman; and four siblings, Charles R. “Ross” of Scotland, PA, Jack E. of Chambersburg, PA, Joe M. of Scotland, PA, and Jay C. Fisher of Roxbury, PA. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four siblings, George “Bill” Fisher, Carl L. Fisher, James E. Fisher, and Ruth M. Stewart.
Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, June 19, 2013 at 1 PM at Norland Cemetery; where Rev. Ron Cook and Rev. Mike Baumgardner will officiate. Military honors will be provided by members of the Charles M. Nitterhouse VFW Post 1599 Honor Guard.
