Raymond B. Maginsky, 86, of Chambersburg, PA, and formerly of Norwich, NY, passed away on Friday, February 12, 2016 at Menno Haven. Born January 23, 1930 in Ashley, PA, he was a son of the late William and Cecelia Wenders Maginsky.
Ray was a 1947 graduate of Ashley High School. A U.S. Air Force veteran, he served in the 745th Air Force Military Band stationed in Barksdale Air Force Base, Barksdale, LA. Following his honorable discharge in 1951, Ray earned his B.S. in Education from Mansfield University. In 1958, he earned his Master’s degree in Science from the University of Pittsburgh. Ray held teaching assignments in science and biology in Squirrel Hill, PA, Greene, NY, Brewster, NY and in Norwich, NY where he taught at the high school for 35 years until his retirement in 1991. During his teaching career at Norwich, he was Faculty Manager, Rifle Coach, and NEA negotiator. He also served as an assessor in Norwich and actively participated on the Norwich flood committee. Ray was a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Chambersburg, the New York State Teachers Association, and a life member of the Charles Nitterhouse Post 1599 VFW in Chambersburg. He was an avid and successful hunter and fisherman. He also enjoyed gardening and all outside activities.
Ray is survived by his wife of 60 years, Ruth M. Maginsky, whom he married on June 11, 1955; two children, Nancy Fama (husband Joseph) of Norwich, NY, and Robert Maginsky of Fort Worth, TX; two grandchildren, Allison Serafen of St. Petersburg, FL and Ryan Maginsky of Fort Worth, TX; two step-grandchildren, Joseph Fama, III (wife Jessica) of Orlando, FL and Christi Fregans of Norwich, NY; and a brother, John Maginsky of Long Island, NY. In addition to his parents, Raymond is preceded in death by a daughter, Maryellen Maginsky-Brennan; and three brothers, William, Thomas, and James Maginsky.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Thursday, March 3, 2016 at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 320 Philadelphia Ave. Chambersburg, PA 17201. Rev. Fr. Dominic M. DiBiccaro will officiate. The family will receive friends on Thursday morning from 9:00 – 10:30 AM at the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA 17202. Interment in St. Paul’s Cemetery in Norwich, NY will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Menno Haven Benevolent Care, c/o Menno Haven Gift Planning Services, 2011 Scotland Ave. Chambersburg, PA 17201.
