Raymond Wingert

Raymond C. Wingert, 91, of Menno Village in Chambersburg, PA, passed away Friday morning, November 7, 2014. Born May 4, 1923 at Elk Hollow (Duffield) in Guilford Township, Franklin County, PA, he was a son of the late Milton W. and Clara Garber Wingert. Raymond was a life-long dairy farmer in the Duffield area. He was a member of the New Guilford Brethren in Christ Church where he had served as a trustee. He volunteered for many years with Children’s Bible Ministries and with Mennonite Disaster Services, as well as various other organizations. He traveled extensively by motorhome in the US with friends and was an avid hunter and a skilled woodcraftsman.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth E. Shelly Wingert, whom he married March 2, 1946 and five children, Jean C. Hess of Chambersburg, Lester C. Wingert (Judy) of Chambersburg, Glenn C. Wingert (Joanne) of Waynecastle, Janice A. Wingert of Chambersburg, and Carolyn R. Augustine (Richard) of Atlanta, GA.

Grandchildren include Douglas Hess, Sharon Hess, Wendy Kerstetter, Rebekah Fisak, Michael Wingert, Brandt Wingert, Renee Wingert, Nicole Augustine, Kyle Augustine, Bethany Wingert, and Luke Wingert and four great-grandchildren. Also surviving are three brothers, Avery Wingert of Chambersburg, Blaine Wingert of Manheim, and Gerald Wingert of Mechanicsburg. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Chester, Gilmore, and Laban Wingert and three sisters, Pearl Hostetter, Verda Wolgemuth, and Helen Gruber.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, November 11, 2014 at New Guilford Brethren in Christ Church, 1575 Mont Alto Road, Chambersburg, PA. Private interment, prior to the service, will be in New Guilford Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 PM Sunday, November 9, 2014 at Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, and immediately following the service on Tuesday at the church.
