Reba Miller

February 21, 1921 — April 1, 2015

Reba L. Miller, a resident of Menno Haven Nursing Center, Chambersburg, went home to be with The Lord on Wednesday, April 1, 2015. Reba was the daughter of the late John H. and Laura Riggs Miller of Washington County, PA. She completed public school and High School near Claysville, PA. In 1943, upon graduation from Moody Bible Institute in Chicago, Il, Reba embarked on her lifetime career as a full time missionary.

From 1944 until 2002, Reba served with CBM ministries Inc. (formerly Children’s Bible Mission) and BCM International (Bible Club Movement). In 1963, when prayer and Bible reading was removed from public schools, Miss Miller was prompted to find another way to bring the Bible to children. She then learned about a Pennsylvania state law which permits children to be released from public school for the purpose of religious instruction. The “Released Time Bible Program” was enthusiastically accepted in Franklin County, with 75 students enrolled in the Chambersburg Pilot Program in 1966. It quickly grew to include Fulton, Lancaster, and York Counties. Hundreds of students who grew up in Franklin County remember Miss Miller as their “Released Time Lady” and their “Summer Camp Director.” In 1986 Reba moved back to Western Pennsylvania and began Released Time classes in Greene County. The RTBP continues to expand, now sharing the Truth with thousands of elementary students.

She is survived by 3 nieces and 1 nephew. Miss Miller was a member of Chambersburg Bible Church, Calvary Church in Lancaster and King Street U.B. Church in Chambersburg. The last of her immediate family, she was preceded in death by 2 sisters, Mrs. Ethel Cooper and Velma Omps; and 2 brothers, Herman and Alvin Miller.

A memorial service to honor Reba’s life will be held on Tuesday, April 14, 2015 at 10:00 AM at the Chapel at Menno Haven, 2075 Scotland Avenue Chambersburg, PA 17201. Private interment will be in Claysville Cemetery, Washington, PA.

Memorial Contributions may be made to Campers Scholarship Fund at Joy – El Ministries, 3741 Joy – El Drive, Greencastle, PA 17225.
