Retha L. (King) Kauffman, 88, of Chambersburg, PA passed away Saturday, July 31, 2021 in the Shook Home, Chambersburg, PA. Born May 30, 1933 in Hagerstown, MD she was the daughter of the late William H. and Blanche V. (Cullison) King.
In her early years Retha was employed at the former Elperin Company Sewing Factory, Hagerstown. She was later employed for the Chambersburg Area School District at Faust Junior High School. Retha was a member of Mt. Pleasant United Brethren Church and its King’s Sons and Daughters Sunday School Class, VFW Post 1599 Ladies Auxiliary; Chambersburg Mall Walkers, and the Golden Opportunity Club. She enjoyed gardening, knitting, and crocheting.
She is survived by one daughter, Dr. Linda K. Kauffman Sweeney (and husband, Dennis) of Ames, Iowa; one grandson, Shawn Patrick Sweeney; a sister, Evelyn M. Reid of Hagerstown; two brothers, Donald L. King of Hagerstown and Wilbur D. King of Funkstown, MD; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her first husband, Francis T. Pakula who passed away March 21, 1958; her second husband, Gaylord N. Kauffman who passed away October 29, 2006; a sister, Rosalie V. Hoover; two brothers Melvin L. and Richard N. King; as well as three sisters and one brother that passed away in infancy.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 A.M., in Mt. Pleasant U.B. Church, 2509 Black Gap Rd., Chambersburg, with the Rev. Garry Culler and Lester Kauffman officiating. Interment will follow in Norland Cemetery, Chambersburg, PA. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service Thursday in the church.
