Rev. James E. Henneberger, age 83, of Chambersburg, PA, went home to be with his Lord on Sunday, September 13, 2015, while holding his wife’s hand at Holy Spirit Hospital. Born November 4, 1931, in Waynesboro, PA, he was the son of the late H. Ellsworth Henneberger and Kathryn Miller Henneberger.
A graduate of Gettysburg College in 1953, with a BA in English, Master of Divinity at Lutheran Theological Seminary in 1957, and a Masters of Arts from Fuller Theological Seminary, 1969, Pasadena, CA. Rev. Henneberger followed his calling and passion, serving full time as a Lutheran Minister for over 40 years. He was the mission developer and first Pastor of Antioch Evangelical Lutheran Church, Farmington, MI. Fluent in Spanish, he served as a missionary in Argentina from 1962 – 1973; he started the Hispanic ministry at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Miami, FL. Rev. Henneberger served as a Chaplain in the Civil Air Patrol. He was involved in three local bands, the Wayne Band, Shippensburg Town Band, and The New Horizon Band. A history buff, Jim enjoyed reading about history, especially Gettysburg, where he gave both aerial and bus tours of the battlefield; he also enjoyed playing the trumpet, and building large scale model airplanes, which could be flown. His passions included his family, church missions, photography, and telling good jokes.
Surviving are his wife of 26 years, Sarah N. Henneberger, whom he married on August 12, 1989, five children, Linda Maria Serrano and husband Guillermo of Debary, FL; Susy K. Fox and companion Jason Wright of Riverton, WY; David John Henneberger of Toms River, NJ; Lynn M. Sacks of Irvine, CA; and Mike Mortimer and wife Donna of Mt. Airy, MD; seven grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and one nephew, Chris Henneberger and wife Joy of Almont, MI. In addition, he is survived by his first wife, Janet Keagy Coringrato of Allentown, PA. In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by a brother, Bill Henneberger and a daughter in law, Eileen Henneberger.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, September 19, 2015, at 11 AM at Solomon’s Lutheran Church, 4856 Wayne Rd., Chambersburg, PA 17202, where Rev. William B. Nienstedt will officiate. Interment will be private in Greenhill Cemetery, Waynesboro, PA. Arrangements are entrusted to the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, Chambersburg, PA.
