Rev. John Springer

Rev. John R. Springer, 88, of Chambersburg, PA, went to be with the Lord Monday evening, June 4, 2012 from the emergency room of Chambersburg Hospital. Born May 21, 1924 in Altoona, PA, he was a son of the late Elmer and Margaret Goss Springer. A US Army veteran of WWII, he received a Bachelor’s Degree from Brian College in Dayton, TN, a Master’s Degree from Dallas Theological Seminary and an Honorary Doctorate from the Antietam Bible College and Seminary in Shepherdstown, WV. He began a career in ministry in Western Pennsylvania and moved to Chambersburg in 1958 where he was called as the first Pastor to serve the Chambersburg Bible Church where he served for forty years until retiring in 1998. He was currently Pastor Emeritus of the church. For many years he hosted a local radio program on WCBG.

Rev. Springer is survived by his wife of sixty-six years, Mary Jane Robison Springer; his son, Darald R. Springer and wife Patricia of Coventry, CT; three grandchildren, Jason Springer and wife Leah, Joel Springer and wife Ashley, and Andrea Springer and fiancé Kris Sanders; three great-grandchildren, Karis, James, and Kate; and a brother, Elmer Springer of Burke, VA.

Funeral services will be held at 7:00 PM Friday, June 8, 2012 in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA. Rev. Gary Yoder, Pastor of the Chambersburg Bible Church and Rev. David Kraft, who served as an Assistant Pastor to Rev. Springer for 14 years will officiate the service. Private interment will follow at Parklawns Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6:00-7:00 PM Friday at the funeral home.
