Rev. Richard Meloy

Rev. Richard Eugene Meloy, age 89, of Doylesburg, PA, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, April 1, 2017, at Menno Haven in Chambersburg, PA. Born on December 8, 1927, in Harrisburg, PA, he was the son of the late Edgar Beaver and Orpah Frickman Meloy.
A 1945 graduate of John Harris High School and an Eagle Scout, Rev. Meloy served in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers near the end of World War II. He graduated from Penn State in Civil Engineering in 1950 and earned his Master of Divinity in 1953 from Princeton Theological Seminary. He loved music and sang with the Seminary Choir, traveling around the country and throughout Cuba.
Rev. Meloy served the East Kishacoquillas Presbyterian Church (Reedsville, PA), the Lansdowne Presbyterian Church (Lansdowne, PA) and the Collingswood Presbyterian Church (Collingswood, NJ) during a 26 year career in parish ministry before returning to practice as a civil engineer. He spent the next 14 years working for several engineering firms in the Harrisburg area including Modjeski and Masters, Michael Baker International, and Erdman Anthony Associates. He received a Master of Engineering from Penn State during that time and was licensed as a Professional Engineer in 1983.
He had a phenomenal memory and could lose himself completely in whatever project was pending. He was passionate about bridges, structures, hydrology, genealogy, trains, and Bible study. He was an avid reader. Rev. Meloy was a retired member of the Huntingdon Presbytery and the Master Well Owner Network through Penn State’s Cooperative Extension.
Surviving is his wife of 62 years, Rev. Alice McFeely Meloy, whom he married on August 7, 1954; three children: Michael Meloy (wife Lise) of Swarthmore, PA, Merry Hope Meloy of Butler, PA, and Meg Meloy of Boalsburg, PA; and three grandchildren, Meghan Meloy Ness (husband Scott), Grace Meloy, and Abigail Meloy.
A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 28, 2017, at the Upper Tuscarora Presbyterian Church in Waterloo, PA. Rev. Joy Kaufmann, Rev. Francois Lacroix, and Rev. Merry Hope Meloy will officiate. Arrangements are entrusted to the Agett-Geisel Funeral Home in Dry Run, PA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Richard Meloy’s name to the Huntingdon Presbytery, 1319 Logan Avenue, Tyrone, PA 16686. Contributions will benefit the Presbyterian “Water and Sanitation For All” Global Fund which helps provide wells and clean water to communities throughout the world. Memorial gifts may also be sent to the Fannett-Metal Fire and Ambulance Company, 18778 Dry Run Rd., West, Dry Run, PA 17220.
