Richard Binggeli

Richard M. Binggeli, 72, of Fayetteville, PA, passed away unexpectedly Monday morning, August 17, 2015 in the emergency room of Chambersburg Hospital. Born August 6, 1943 in Elyria, Ohio, he was the son of the late Richard Smith and Jean Louise Andrews Bingelli. He was adopted at the age of three by his step-father, the late Ernest Binggeli. Rich lived in North Ridgeville, Ohio until the summer of 1950 when he moved to Ft. Pierce, FL. He attended junior high school in Ft. Pierce and was a 1961 graduate of the Dan McCarty High School in Ft. Pierce. He worked during the summer following graduation in construction and then joined the US Army in November of 1961 taking his basic training at Ft. Gordon, GA. He then received additional training at Ft. Ritchie, MD and in the fall of 1962 relocated to Ft. Shafter, HI. From November of 1964 to February of 1965 he was assigned to Ft. Pierce, FL and from February 1965 to August 1965 he was stationed at Camp Zama in Japan. He then served in Frankfurt, Germany; spent one year in Korea; and was then assigned to Ft. Hood, TX. He went on to serve in Vietnam and upon returning to the US was assigned to Ft. Ritchie, MD. He was later stationed in Heidelberg, Germany and was discharged from military service at Ft. Gordon in November of 1982. He worked as a civilian employee at Ft. Ritchie from 1983-1993 and then at Fort Detrick, MD from 1993 until his retirement in 2002. He was a member of Charles Nitterhouse Post 1599 VFW in Chambersburg and enjoyed model railroading.

He is survived by his wife, Joyce Reineman Binggeli and two sisters, Karen Overton (Paul) of Jacksonville, FL and Oneita Bryant (Perry) of Ft. Pierce, FL. He was preceded in death by a sister, Katherine Green.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Friday, August 21, 2015 in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA. Rev. Ronald Cook will officiate. Interment with military honors by members of the Charles Nitterhouse Post 1599 VFW Honor Guard will follow at Parklawns Memorial Gardens, Chambersburg, PA. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 PM Thursday and from Noon until 1:00 PM Friday at the funeral home.
