Richard L. Bitner, age 80, of Chambersburg, PA, passed away on Monday, October 13, 2014 at the Falling Spring Nursing and Rehab Center. Born March 26, 1934 in Chambersburg, he was the son of the late Howard and Elizabeth Carmack Bitner.
A veteran of the Armed Forces, Mr. Bitner served honorably in both the U. S. Army and U.S. Air Force. He was a member of the American Legion Post 46, VFW post 1599, AmVets Post 224, and the Elks Club all in Chambersburg. He was a former member of the Lions Club and a former Rotarian. He enjoyed golfing, watching the Pittsburgh Steelers and Baltimore Orioles.
Surviving are two daughters, Pamela Beck (husband Bradley) of Fayetteville, PA and Linda Lazar of Chambersburg, PA; five grandchildren, Caitlin and Mason Beck and Remy Lazar and Justin and Trevor Thomas; his companion of 30 years, Nancy Bowser and her children, Kim Overcash (husband Jerry), Claudia and Carolyn; and two granddogs, Penelope and Jam; and five siblings, Joanne L. Bowman, Betsy l. Moncavitch, Phyllis H. Brehm, Susie Farner, and Jerry D. Bitner
A Memorial service will be held on Friday, October 17, 2014 at 2 PM at Central Presbyterian Church, 40 Lincoln Way West, Chambersburg, PA, where Rev. Scott Bowerman will officiate. Interment will be private. Arrangements are entrusted to the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, Chambersburg, PA. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to help defray funeral expenses be made to Pamela Beck, 1158, Black Gap Rd., Fayetteville, PA 17222.
