Richard C. Bowman, age 74, of Chambersburg, PA, passed away on Wednesday, May 6, 2015 at his home. Born August 13, 1941 in Chambersburg, he was a son of the late Elwood and Ruth Mowery Bowman.
Richard is survived by his wife, Sharon Sallurday-Bowman; a step-daughter, Sara Valadez and husband Ronald of Fresno, CA; three granddaughters, Jonah, Grace, and Jesha Valadez, all of Fresno, CA; two siblings, James Bowman and wife Barbara of Chambersburg, and Patty Sites and husband Ray of Phoenix, AZ; and several nephews, nieces and cousins. In addition to his parents, Richard is preceded in death by his first wife, Phyllis Sandoe Bowman.
A 1959 graduate of CASHS, Richard worked as a heavy equipment operator at Letterkenny Army Depot until his retirement in 1995 after 43 years of service. He was a member of the Cumberland Valley Fire and Hose Company where he served as Secretary and Museum Curator. Richard was a historian of the Chambersburg area. He loved collecting antique vehicles, motorcycles, fire apparatuses, and military equipment. He also enjoyed reminiscing with his friends. His one true joy was taking his granddaughters to the park and to the Igloo for ice cream.
A memorial gathering will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are entrusted to Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, Chambersburg, PA.
