Richard Brandt

Richard G. Brandt, 78, of Chambersburg, passed away on Wednesday, December 2, 2020 at the Chambersburg Hospital. Born September 5, 1942, in Pittsburgh, PA, he was the only child of the late Gustav and Charlotte (Schnabel) Brandt.

Richard was a 1960 graduate of the St. Basil High School in Pittsburgh, and continued his education at the Wheeling Jesuit University, earning his Bachelor’s in Political Science. He was a United States Marine, later going on to work at Letterkenny Army Depot as a Budget Analyst. He was a member of the Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Chambersburg, as well as the Knights of Columbus and the Charles Nitterhouse Post 1599 VFW. He served on the board of the Patriot Federal Credit Union for a number of years. In his spare time, he enjoyed playing golf, going on cruises and traveling with his wife, spending time with his family; especially his grandchildren; and attending their sporting events, and cheering on the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Surviving is his wife of 54 years, Bernadette (Strzegowski) Brandt, whom he married on October 15, 1966; daughters, Cynthia Woodruff and husband Clifford, of Frederick, MD, and Tracey Brandt-Gower and husband John, of Chambersburg, PA; and three grandchildren, Collin, Heather and Logan Woodruff.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his dear Aunt Catherine Schnabel.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Thursday, December 10, 2020 at 11:00 AM at the Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 320 Philadelphia Ave., Chambersburg, PA where Rev. Fr.Allan Wolfe will celebrate. Interment will be private. The family will receive friends at the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA on Wednesday afternoon, December 9, 2020 from 2:00 to 5:00 PM. Masks will be required and social distancing will be observed. Military honors will be rendered at 4:00 PM on Wednesday at the funeral home by members of the Charles Nitterhouse Post 1599 VFW. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association: Greater Pennsylvania Chapter – Harrisburg Office, 2595 Interstate Drive, Suite 100, Harrisburg, PA 17110.
