Richard Cover

Richard K. Cover, 91, of Chambersburg, PA, died Tuesday evening, April 23, 2013 at Menno Haven. Born October 23, 1921 in Port Clinton, OH, he was the son of Guy K. and Anna D. Caspersen Cover. Mr. Cover received a degree in Business Administration from Bowling Green University, Bowling Green, OH and served in the US Army during WWII. He was employed at Standard Products Company in Port Clinton from 1943 – 1951 and then at Erie Army Depot from 1951 – 1964. He retired in 1980 as Chief of the Standards Division at Letterkenny Army Depot where he had been employed since 1964. He was a member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Chambersburg where he was active with the church choir and the Men’s Sunday School Class. He was a former member of St. John Lutheran Church in Port Clinton and was a member of Oliver H. Perry Lodge #341 F & AM. Mr. Cover was active with Boy Scouts of America throughout his lifetime, was a life member of Delta Upsilon Fraternity, and was a member and Past President of the Chambersburg Kiwanis. His wife, Helen M. McRitchie Cover, whom he married April 23, 1944, preceded him in death on April 5, 2011.

He is survived by four children, Thomas K. Cover and wife Daphne of Baltimore, MD, Jane E. Love and husband Dennis of Chambersburg, Gary R. Cover and wife Vickie of East Berlin, PA, and Ann M. Haugh and husband Michael of York Haven, PA; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be conducted by Rev. Steven Dorsett at 2:00 PM Friday, April 26, 2013 at Lincoln Cemetery in Chambersburg.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his name to the First Evangelical Lutheran Church, 43 W. Washington Street, Menno Haven, 2011 Scotland Avenue, both in Chambersburg, PA 17201, or to the Carnegie Library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped, 4400 Forbes Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15213.
