Richard Cowan

December 3, 1953 — February 6, 2023

Richard Eugene “Rich” Cowan, 69, of Chambersburg, passed away on Monday, February 6, 2023. Born December 3, 1953 in Chambersburg, he was the son of the late Wesley E. “Gene” and Violet Price Cowan.

Rich was a 1971 graduate of Fannett-Metal High School. He was employed as a Production Scheduler with Grove World Wide for 43 years until his retirement in 2015. After his retirement, he worked part-time delivering parts for Keystone Ford in Chambersburg.

Rich very much valued his time with friends and family. He was always up for an adventure and loved to explore. He and his wife enjoyed traveling and visited many places like the Pyramids in Egypt, the Grand Canyon, drove the Pacific Highway, and saw many beaches and sunsets; his favorites being those in Hawaii. Rich was an avid hunter. He had enjoyed going out west to hunt and got a buck on the first day in PA for more than 20 years. Rich loved ATV rides, riding his Harley Davidson, and horse races. He won many trophies for horseshoe throwing and bowling. An avid sports fan, he played high school basketball, played softball for the Fannettsburg Froggers, and enjoyed watching golf, NASCAR and the Dallas Cowboys. He loved music and attended many concerts with his wife. He enjoyed taking care of his house and was proud of his backyard where he loved to entertain guests. Rich attended King Street Church for over 25 years. He was a loving husband and treasured time with his family. He looked for signs of God in everything. He was a man full of compassion, patience, grace and support for anyone who needed it.

He is survived by his wife of nearly 30 years, Wendy S. Martin Cowan, whom he married on March 6, 1993; three children, Amy Brown (Christopher), Carrie Strite, and Richaela Denlinger (Dylan), all of Chambersburg; three grandchildren, Taylor Brown, Ian Brown and Hannah Meyers (Tristan); and one great grandson, River Meyers. In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by his grandson, Kirkland Cowan.
