Richard M. Jessen, 88, of Chambersburg, PA, died Friday, March 8, 2013 at Menno Haven in Chambersburg, PA. Born March 16, 1924 in Oak Harbor, OH, he was the son of the late Conrad F. Jessen and Marie B. Siefield Jessen. Richard was a 1942 graduate Oak Harbor High School and served honorably in the US Navy during WWII. Upon his discharge from the Navy, he earned his bachelor’s degree in business administration from Bowling Green State University in 1950. Richard worked at Erie Ordinance Depot in Port Clinton, OH and retired from Letterkenny Army Depot in 1979. He was a member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church of Chambersburg, PA. He enjoyed building ship models and reading.
Richard is survived by his wife of 61 years, Mary Lou McRitchie Jessen, whom he married on April 14, 1951; three children, David A. Jessen and wife, Sheila, of Norfolk, VA, Barbara L. Reesey and husband, Fred, of North Charleston, SC, and Susan K. Rote and husband, Lance, of Chambersburg, PA; seven grandchildren, Meredith, Emily, and Amanda Jessen, Tyler Reesey and wife, Vero, Katelyn Reesey, and Kelci and Taylor Rote; a brother-in-law, Richard Cover; and nieces and nephews. Aside from his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Margaret Dicken.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, March 12, 2013 in Lincoln Cemetery, with Rev. Steven Dorsett officiating. Arrangements are entrusted to Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, Chambersburg, PA.
