Richard Kelly

October 19, 1934 — February 20, 2016

Richard Robert Raymond Kelly, (CW4, U.S. Army, Ret.), age 81, of Fayetteville, PA, passed away on Saturday, February 20, 2016, at his home with his family by his side. Born October 19, 1934, in Hackensack NJ, he was the son of the late Charles W. and Catherine Brady Kelly.
Chief Kelly graduated NYU with an Associate’s Degree in Fine Arts and a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration in 1980, from the University of Maryland. Chief Kelly served his country honorably in the U.S. Army for 33 years, retiring in 1983, after serving three tours in Vietnam with the 25th Infantry Division. He was awarded the bronze star with three Oak Leaf Clusters and the Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters, among many others. After retiring from Military Service, Chief Kelly continued to serve as a civil servant for the U. S. Government, with the Department of Defense, Office of the Secretary of the Navy and the Office on Naval Intelligence, retiring in 1996, after 18 years of service. Chief Kelly was a life member of the National VFW and a member of the Veterans of Vietnam War, Post 41 in Chambersburg, PA. He enjoyed public service, mentoring young men, woodworking, and gardening.
Surviving is his beloved wife of 38 years, Vera Kelly, whom he married February 25, 1977, five children, Michael J. of Monument, CO; Kenneth J. of Colorado Springs, CO; Charles W. of Tracy, CA; Mark E. of Anchorage, AK, and Erin L. Kelly of Chambersburg, PA; four grandchildren, Angela Marie Kelly, Katherine Carranza, Grace Kelly, and Monica Kelly; two great-grandchildren, Joshua and Jacob Carranza, and a brother Edward Kelly of Camp Hill, PA. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Charles T. Kelly.
A Memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 27, 2016, at 9:30 AM at World Harvest Outreach Church, 1090 Wayne Ave., Chambersburg, PA 17202, where Pastor Mark Durniak will celebrate. The family will receive friends on Friday, February 26, 2016, from 6 – 9 PM at the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Rd., Chambersburg, PA. Graveside services with full military honors will be held in Arlington National Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the World Harvest Outreach Church, c/o The Benevolent Fund, at the address above or to the Veterans of Iraqi Enduring Freedom, 2823 Coteau Way, Dallas, TX 75227, or simply take a little of Richard's advice and don’t vote for Hillary Clinton in 2016, all in the memory of Mr. Richard R. Kelly.
