Richard C. Lehman, 78, of Chambersburg, PA, passed away Thursday evening, December 14, 2017 at Menno Haven. Born March 12, 1939 in Chambersburg, he was a son of the late Clayton F. and Esther Witmer Lehman. He was a 1957 graduate of the Chambersburg Area Senior High School and retired from Office Suppliers after 27 years of service. Earlier in his life he had worked at Martin’s Food Market in Maugansville, MD where he was the Deli Manager. He was a member of Mt. Zion Mennonite Church in Boonsboro, MD where he had served as an Elder and as the Music Director. He served on the Cumberland Valley Relief Center Board and the Franklin Mennonite Conference Mission Board. Mr. Lehman volunteered for eight years at Camp Gilead in Polk City, FL; served with Mennonite Disaster Services; and was a delegate to Eastern Mennonite Missions. He had a love for music and served as Assistant Director of the King’s Troubadours and sang with the Gospel Tide Choir as well as several other choirs and quartets. Mr. and Mrs. Lehman were foster parents for many years. His hobbies included woodworking, singing, reading, and birding.
He is survived by his wife, Sue Russell Lehman, whom he married April 17, 1960; four children, Joyce Peckman (Emerson) of Chambersburg, PA, R. Michael Lehman (Marjorie) of Lancaster, PA, Mary Martin (fiancé Ronnie Lydard, Sr.) of Hagerstown, MD, and Lisa Griffith (Douglas) of Winter Garden, FL; fourteen grandchildren; and twelve great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a brother, Wilmer Lehman (Miriam) of Willow Hill, PA and a sister, Verna Martin of Denver, PA; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Edgar Lehman; and three sisters, Elva Ruth Frey, Pauline Martin, and Catherine Miller.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, December 18, 2017 at Mt. Zion Mennonite Church, Boonsboro, MD. Pastor Craig Oury, Pastor Larry Lehman, and Pastor Roger Martin will officiate. Interment will follow in the adjoining church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 3:00-6:00 PM Sunday, December 17, 2017 at Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA and from 10:00-11:00 AM Monday at the church.
