Richard Elmond Miller, 89, of Chambersburg, PA, passed away on Wednesday, March 16, 2016, at Penn hall Nursing Center. Born May 7, 1926, in Chambersburg, PA, he was the son of the late Samuel B. and Lottie Irene Miller.
A graduate of the former Chambersburg High School, Mr. Miller went on to serve in the U.S. Navy, honorably during WWII. He was a jeweler most of his working life, and was the owner and operator of R. E. Miller Jewelers for 58 years.
Surviving is his wife of 45 years, D. Louise Miller, whom he married on June 26, 1971; two sons, Richard K (wife Bonnie) of Scottsdale, AZ and Dennis P. (wife Janice) of Centennial, CO; two step-sons, Ronald F. (wife Terry) and Ray E. (companion Diana) Cosey both of Chambersburg, PA; ten grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; and five siblings, Lorraine Rife, Betty Stumbaugh, Pat Butts, Irene Brown, and Leroy Miller; and a step-brother, Norman “Bunk” McCleary. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, L. Gail Miller in June 1970 and two sisters and five brothers.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 21, 2016, at 10 AM at The Open Door Church, 600 Miller St., Chambersburg, PA 17201; where Pastor Mike Sanders will officiate. The family will receive friends on Sunday, March 20, 2016, from 6 – 8 PM at the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Rd., Chambersburg, PA and on Monday one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will follow the service in Parklawns Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Building Fund at The Open Door Church, at the address above.
