Richard Aulton Nonemaker, beloved husband, brother, and uncle, aged 80, passed away on May 19, 2023, in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, with his devoted and loving wife, Margaret (Olsen), at his bedside.
He is also survived by his brothers Karl (Judy), Walt (Krista), John (Marti), and Lewis (Karla), his sister, Lindsey Lyders, and many nephews, nieces, and grandnephews and grandnieces.
Born on February 1, 1943 in Queens, New York, to Aubrey and Eleanor (Arnold) Nonemaker, Richard grew up in Glen Ridge, New Jersey. He graduated from Brewster Academy, Wolfeboro, New Hampshire and then earned a degree in History from Bethany College, Bethany, West Virginia. After college, he moved to Maryland where he was a dedicated and much respected teacher of Social Studies in Harford County for 36 years.
Richard loved life. As his mother wrote about Richard when he was five months old, he was “rough, tough, and happy.” He remained that way throughout his life. He enjoyed square dancing, golfing, tennis, cruising, and traveling around the country to visit and celebrate with family and to support them in their activities. He also loved following the Yankees, Duke Basketball, and any sport in which his nieces and nephews participated.
A memorial service is planned for a date in the Fall.
