Richard E. Rock, Sr., 91 of Chambersburg, PA, went to be with his Lord on Wednesday, May 16, 2018 at Menno Haven. Born April 26, 1927 in Pond Bank, he was a son of the late Millard E. and Beatrice V. Stoops Rock. His beloved wife, Betty Pensinger Rock, preceded him in death on January 31, 1981.
A US Navy veteran, Richard served honorably during World War II in the South Pacific aboard the USS Cecil J. Boyle Destroyer Escort 368 from May 3 1944 – August 31, 1946. He was employed at Letterkenny Army Depot for 36 years until his retirement in 1982. He served in many positions of increased responsibility in the ammunition division. He was chief of maintenance and demolition and responsible for maintenance, renovation and demilitarization of conventional ammunitions and guided missile parts and motors. Richard was a member former of the Fayetteville Church of God for 55 years. He was also a member of the Waynesboro Fish and Game Protective Association and NARFE #1063. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling and playing the guitar.
He is survived by three children, Richard E. Rock, Jr. (wife Pat) of Fayetteville, Colleen K. Rock of Chambersburg and Jeffrey D. Rock (wife Judy) of Chambersburg; four grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; three great great-grandchildren; and one sister, Betty Heck of Boise, ID. In addition to his wife and parents, Richard was preceded in death by four brothers, John, Wilbur, George and Samuel; one sister, Irene; and one granddaughter, Tammy Jo Rock.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM on Monday, May 21, 2018 in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA. Rev. Terry Ulrich will officiate. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the funeral home. Interment will follow the service in St. Thomas Cemetery where graveside military honors will be provided by members of the VFW Post 1599 Honor Guard.
