Rick J. “Bubba” Showalter, 72, of Chambersburg, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 20, 2024 at Mercy House of Chambersburg. Born January 19, 1952 in Roaring Spring, PA, he was the son of the late Charles E. and Miriam L. Isenberg Showalter.
Rick was a 1969 graduate of Central High School in Martinsburg, PA . He earned a Bachelor’s degree from Indiana University of Pennsylvania in 1973 and later a Master’s degree in Biology and another Master’s degree in Education Administration, both from Shippensburg University. A career educator, Rick was employed as a high school biology teacher at James Buchanan High School and later as an Assistant Middle School Principal at Northern Middle School in Dillsburg and a Principal at Fairfield Middle School and finally at Bethlehem-Center Middle School until his retirement in 2007. Rick enjoyed and was an avid fan of all Pittsburgh Sports and Penn State Football. He loved being outside and spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Robyn Baker Showalter, whom he married on August 9, 1997; two children, R. Joseph Showalter (wife Martha) of State College, and Kelly Showalter Casey (husband Matthew) of Elkridge, MD; four grandchildren, Megan Showalter, Nathan Showalter, Emma Casey and Alexis Casey; mother-in-law, Nellie Weller; long-time friends and brothers-in-law, Allen “Chip” Baker and Dennis Baker; long-time friends Richard Martin and Rick Beegle and many other friends and relatives, including cousin, Gloria Oesterling.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, July 26, 2024 in the chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA 17202. Rev. Christopher Frye will officiate. Interment will follow the service in Norland Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Friday at the funeral home. The family would like to thank the staff at Mercy House for their compassion and dedication.
