Robert A. “Bob” Bard, Sr., age 87, of Chambersburg, PA, passed away on Sunday, September 16, 2018, at York Hospital. Born May 15, 1931, in Fulton County, PA, he was a son of the late Andrew R. and Pauline Catherine Fittry Bard.
Robert was a Veteran of the United States Air Force as well as the Army National Guard. He worked in electronics at Letterkenny Army Depot and Quality Control at Grove Manufacturing, retiring from Grove in 1986. He also worked and retired from the former Lynn Chevrolet as a salesman. Bob was a member of the St. Thomas Assembly of God, where he enjoyed being a youth Sunday school teacher. He was a former Sunday school superintendent. He also went on mission trips through the church to Africa and Mexico. Bob had a love of gospel music, which led him to sing as a member of The Gospel Aires Quartet. In addition to his church, Bob was a member of the National Rifle Association. He was a federally licensed gunsmith. An avid outdoorsman, Bob enjoyed hunting, fishing, growing roses, woodworking, and creating custom gun stocks.
Surviving is his loving wife of 37 years, Nancy Piper Bard, whom he married on Valentine’s Day of 1981; his children, Gary Bard and wife Beverly, of High Point, NC, Cynthia L. Barges of St. Thomas, PA, Robert “Bobby” Bard, Jr. and wife April, of St. Thomas, PA, and Nancy L. Ramer and husband, Robert of Chambersburg, PA; seven grandchildren, Heather Bard, Regina Spagnardi (husband Michael), Gerry Barges (wife Karen), Anthony Bard (wife Nicole), Brandon Bard (Brittany), Shawn Ramer (Jade), and Christopher Ramer; five great-grandchildren; four siblings, Jean Lake, Arlene Ryder (husband Donald), Marlene Rubeck, and Harry Bard (wife Doris); two sisters-in-law, Marsha and Joyce Bard; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Jan Chilcote; a son-in-law, Alan T. Barges; and two brothers, Marvin Ray and Larry Bard.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 20, 2018, at 10:00 AM at St. Thomas Assembly of God, 173 Rhondel Dr., St. Thomas, PA, where Pastor Josh Baldwin will officiate. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Wednesday, September 19, at the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Rd., Chambersburg, PA. There will be no viewing at the church prior to the service. Interment will follow the service in Parklawns Memorial Gardens.
