Robert L. “Bob” Mentzer, age 79, of Chambersburg, PA, passed away on Friday, March 31, 2017, at the Chambersburg Hospital. Born March 5, 1938, in Waynesboro, PA, he was the son of the late Lester Wallace and Josephine Stoner Mentzer.
A 1956 graduate of Greencastle-Antrim Senior High School, Bob went on to serve honorably in the U.S. Air Force. Bob continued his service after the military and joined the Pennsylvania State Police, retiring after 26 years of service. He enjoyed woodworking, golf, hunting, and especially spending time with his family and his beloved dog, Marvie. Bob was a member of King Street Church, the Fraternal Order of Police, and AARP.
Surviving is his beloved wife of 57 years, Saundra Moats Mentzer, whom he married on June 20, 1959; three children, Blaine L. Mentzer (wife Lisa) of Chambersburg, PA, Lisa K. Fritz (husband Dale) of Chambersburg, PA, and Kimberly A. Bard (husband Jay) of Chambersburg, PA; four grandchildren, Dustin Fritz (wife Kate) of Chambersburg, PA, Calvin Mentzer of Fairfield, PA, Luke Mentzer of Chambersburg, PA, and Zane Bard of Chambersburg, PA; one great-grandson, Raleigh Fritz; and two siblings, Janet Warren of Ephrata, PA and June VonEiff of Frederick, MD.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 6, 2017, at 10 AM in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Rd., Chambersburg, PA, where Rev. Ron Cook will officiate. The family will receive friends Wednesday, April 5, 2017, from 6 – 8 PM in the funeral home, there will be no viewing prior to the service on Thursday. Interment will follow the service in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Greencastle, PA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Cumberland Valley Animal Shelter, 5051 Letterkenny Rd., West, Chambersburg, PA 17201.
