Robert E. “Cookie” Cook, Sr., 79, of Shippensburg, PA, passed away Thursday morning, December 1, 2016 at the Chambersburg Hospital. Born September 9, 1937 in Fayetteville, he was a son of the late Rodney Eugene and Pearl Edna Frey Cook. An auto body mechanic most of his life, he and Marlin “Butch” Myers owned and operated Myers and Cook Body Shop in Chambersburg from 1976-1981. Mr. Cook then operated R. Cook’s Body Shop from 1981 until his retirement in 2009. He was a member of Mt. Rock Brethren In Christ Church where he served as an usher for twenty years. He liked collecting, especially cars; and enjoyed attending car shows.
He is survived by his wife, Cheryl Nye Cook, whom he married February 22, 1975; his son, Robert E. Cook, Jr. and wife Robin of Chambersburg; his daughter Brenda R. Caldwell of Williamsport, MD; three grandchildren, Mandy Brindle and husband Mike, Amy Cook, and Alicia Caldwell; and a great-grandson, Tanner Cook. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, John Rodney “Mick” Cook.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Monday, December 5, 2016 in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA. Pastor Luke Holtry will officiate. Interment will follow at Air Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 PM Sunday and from 1:00-2:00 PM Monday at the funeral home.
