Robert L. Daugherty, Sr., 77 of Chambersburg, PA, passed away Monday, March 23, 2015 at the Veteran’s Affairs Medical Center in Martinsburg, WV. Born April 4, 1937 in Philippi, WV, he was a son of the late Pat and Wanita Daughtery. Bob was a 1955 graduate of the Philippi High School and went on to receive a 4 year degree from Fairmont State College that he completed in 2 ½ years. He later earned a Master’s Degree in Industrial Relations from Juniata College in Huntingdon, PA. Bob was a US Army veteran, serving in Germany for two years. He was recognized as “Soldier of the Week” every week for two years. Immediately after college he was a “Looper” in the Management Trainee Program at the Bethlehem Steel Company in Johnstown, PA. He then went on to work at Olin Matheison Chemical Corporation in Shadyside, OH. In 1971 he relocated to Center Square, PA where he was employed by Irv Kosloff, owner of the Philadelphia 76ers and the Roosevelt Paper Company. Bob moved to Fayetteville, PA in 1975 and began employment at the former Grove Manufacturing in Shady Grove, PA. He later worked at JLG Industries in McConnellsburg. He retired from the State of Pennsylvania, where he had been employed in the Treasury Department.
He is survived by his wife of 19 years, Lois Cormany Daugherty; a daughter, Cheryl Lynn Walker of Greensboro, NC, her children Benjamin Michael Walker serving with the US Army in Texas and Kathryn Lynn Walker of New Jersey; a son, Robert L. “Rob” Daugherty, Jr. and wife Helen of Honea Path, SC and their children Jill Michelle Blanton of Johnsonville, SC and Chad James Daughtery of Honea Path, SC; two step-daughters, Pamela Beck and husband Bradley of Fayetteville, PA and their children Caitlin and Mason Beck; and Linda Lee Lazar of Chambersburg, PA and her children Remy Lazar, Justin and Trevor Thomas; one great-great-granddaughter; three step-great-grandchildren; and eight nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a twin brother, Richard “Dick” Daughtery, husband of Betty Daughtery and a sister, Patty Turner, wife of Hobert Turner.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Saturday, March 28, 2015 at Central Presbyterian Church, 40 Lincoln Way West, Chambersburg, PA with Rev. Scott Bowerman officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:30 PM until services begin at 1:00 PM. Private interment will be in the West Virginia National Cemetery, Grafton, WV.
