Robert O. “Bob” Deardorff, 86, of Fayetteville, PA, passed away on Thursday, May 4, 2023 at his home surrounded by his family. Born April 13, 1937 in Chambersburg, he was the son of the late Paul K. and Mabel E. Martin Deardorff.
Bob was a 1955 graduate of Chambersburg High School. A US Army veteran, Bob served honorably from 1960 – 62 in South Korea as a Construction Machine Operator on the DMZ. He was the co-owner and Vice President of Fayetteville Contractors, Inc. until his retirement. Bob was a member of Chambersburg Church of the Brethren, the Chambersburg Evening Lions Club and the Shippen Squares Square Dance Club. He enjoyed working outside, gardening, spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, and traveling.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 60 years, Janet E. Stover Deardorff, whom he married on June 2, 1963; two children, Lisa Deardorff-Murray and husband Curtis of Chambersburg, and Brian R. Deardorff and wife Ann of Fayetteville; six grandchildren, Megan Rotz and husband Philip of Mercersburg, Jordan Murray of Chambersburg, Brennan Murray of Chambersburg and Anastasia, Zachary and Juliet Deardorff of Fayetteville; three great grandchildren; and four siblings, Lucille Meyers of Dover, Jeanne Monn of Shippensburg, Janet Campbell and husband Jack of Leesburg, FL, and Donald Deardorff and wife Flo of Chambersburg. Aside from his parents, Bob was preceded in death by his brother, Glenn Deardorff.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, May 9, 2023 at the Chambersburg Church of the Brethren, 260 S. Fourth St., Chambersburg, PA 17201. Rev. Elizabeth Thorpe will officiate. Interment will follow the service in Lincoln Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 PM on Monday at the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA, and one hour prior to the service on Tuesday at the church.
