Robert H. Dihel, age 82, of Chambersburg, PA, passed away on his 53rd wedding anniversary, Tuesday, April 25, 2017, at the Chambersburg Hospital. Born February 15, 1935, in Rising City, NE, he was the son of the late Harold and Ruby McElravy Dihel.
Mr. Dihel was a 1953 graduate of Clover Park High School in Tacoma, WA. A U.S. Army veteran, Mr. Dihel enlisted in 1953 and served honorably during the Korean Conflict, where he served for 18 months. He went on to graduate from Central Washington University in 1961. Bob moved to Utah in 1963, where he met and married his wife, Mary Ellen Lynch on April 25, 1964. They moved to Chambersburg, PA in 1970, he worked at Tooele Army Depot for LSSA/SIMA until his retirement in 1993. Bob was a member of the VFW Post 1599, American Legion Post 46, Amvets Post 224, the Marine Corps and the Chambersburg Club all in Chambersburg.
Surviving is his wife, Mary Ellen Lynch Dihel; two children, Jennifer Allison of Chambersburg, PA and Matthew Dihel (wife Janine) of Waynesboro, PA; three grandchildren, Jacob and Zachary Dihel and Douglas Allison; and one sibling, Merle Dihel of Gig Harbor, WA. In addition to his parents, Robert is preceded in death by a brother, Wayne Dihel of Tacoma, WA.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, May 2, 2017, at 10:00 AM in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Rd., Chambersburg, PA; where the Very Reverend Father Luis R. Rodriguez will officiate. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the funeral home. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made in his name to the Coyle Free Library Building Fund, 102 N. Main St., Chambersburg, PA 17201.
