Robert James Greenwalt, 93, of Chambersburg, PA, passed away Saturday afternoon, December 12, 2015 at his home. Born May 1, 1922 in Fort Hamilton, Brooklyn, NY, he was a son of the late Milton J. and Martha Singer Greenwalt. A 1940 graduate of the John Adams High School in Queens, NY, Mr. Greenwalt served with the US Army during WWII. He was employed early in his life by White Rock Beverage Company and later by Slomon’s Oil Company, retiring in 1987 as the Diesel Fleet Manager. His hobbies included model railroading and reading. Mr. Greenwalt was a Civil War enthusiast and had served as a volunteer firefighter.
He is survived by his wife, Louise DeBaker Greenwalt, whom he married December 20, 1945; a daughter, Evelyne Foerster and husband Kenneth of Lynbrook, NY, two daughters, Suzanne Lecky of Prince Edward Island, Canada and Patricia Medina and husband Carlos of Chambersburg; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Irene Batista and Dorothy Fugel.
A graveside service with military honors will be held at 1:00 PM Tuesday, December 29, 2015 at Fort Indiantown Gap National Cemetery. Rev. Peter Emig will officiate. Arrangements are entrusted to Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road Chambersburg, PA.
