Robert K. Hockenberry, Sr., 71, better known as “Big Boy” or “Pap”, of Fannettsburg, PA, passed away Monday evening, April 14, 2014 in Chambersburg Hospital. Born August 2, 1942 in Spring Run, he was a son of the late Kenneth G. and Mary Jane McAllen Hockenberry. Bob was a 1960 graduate of the Fannett-Metal High School and was employed early in his life with the State Survey Corps. He then worked for CJ Langenfelder during the construction of the PA Turnpike tunnels and retired on March 1, 2005 from New Enterprise Stone and Lime Company, Inc. after 38 years of employment. Following his retirement he was employed by Gish Logging in Ft. Loudon. Bob was a life member of both the Metal Township Fire and Ambulance Company and the Fannett-Metal Fire and Ambulance Company, and a member of Loyal Order of Moose Lodge #842 in Chambersburg. He enjoyed hunting, flea markets, and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy Hammond Hockenberry, whom he married December 3, 1960; his daughter, Eloise J. Jones and husband Michael, of Ft. Loudon; his son, Robert K. Hockenberry, Jr. and wife Sharon of Willow Hill; four grandsons, Michael Jones, Jr. and wife Laura, Eric Jones and wife Amanda, all of Ft. Loudon, Taylor and Tanner Hockenberry, both of Willow Hill; and three great-grandchildren, Easton, Garrett, and Miranda Jones, all of Ft. Loudon. He is also survived by a sister, Betty Jane Bruck and husband William of Chambersburg; three brothers, J. Gray Hockenberry and wife Shelby of Carlisle, William Hockenberry and wife Mary of Fannettsburg, and Larry Hockenberry and wife Pat of California, MD; and his beloved cat, Missy. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death be three brothers, Donald, Richard, and Barry Hockenberry; a sister, Virginia Hockenberry; and a grandson, Tyler Jones.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Saturday, April 19, 2014 at Agett-Geisel Funeral Home, 18875 Main Street, Dry Run, PA with Rev. Marlin A. "Butch" Neil officiating. Interment will follow at Lower Path Valley Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 PM Friday and one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the funeral home.
