Robert Hoover

Robert S. Hoover, 91, of Chambersburg, PA, passed away Wednesday evening, May 16, 2018 at Quincy Village. Born in Chambersburg, he was the son of the late Elam G. and Mary Sollenberger Hoover. Mr. Hoover was a graduate of the Chambersburg High School class of 1944. He began employment at TB Woods Sons, Co. and was employed there for 46 years, leaving as President in 1990. He went on to be President of the local Easter Seals Society for 15 years.

He was an Elder of St. John’s United Church of Christ and taught ninth grade Sunday school and Confirmation class for many years. A 32nd degree Mason, he was a member of George Washington Lodge # 143 F&AM, and a member of the Zembo Shrine Club of Harrisburg, PA. An active member of the Rotary Club of Chambersburg, he helped to establish the BOPIC (Building Our Pride in Chambersburg) organization in 1990 and served as treasurer for many years. He was a former secretary of the Chamber of Commerce and served on the Chambersburg Hospital Board for nine years, acting as President for two years. He served on the Elm Street Advisory Board; was President of the local Occupational Services, Inc., and served as Vice Chairman of the Chambersburg Partnership.

His beloved wife Helen B. Hoover, whom he married October 24, 1948, preceded him in death on January 18, 2014 after 65 years of marriage. He is survived by a son, Ralph (wife Donna); a daughter, Lisa Babione; six grandchildren, Justin Hoover, Tara Hartman, Samuel Hoover, Timothy Hoover, Carly Babione, and Katie Babione; and several great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his companion, Betty L. Malone. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Kenneth; and two sisters, Dorothy Wenger and Janet Diller.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, May 19, 2018 at Lincoln Cemetery, Chambersburg, PA.
