Robert J. “Bob” Keeney, age 68, passed away unexpectedly on November 29, 2014 in the Chambersburg Hospital. Born March 1, 1946, he was a son of Gertrude McGraw Keeney and the late Francis J. Keeney.
Bob was a 1964 graduate of St. James High School in Chester, PA. After his graduation, he served honorably in the U.S. Army in Vietnam from 1965 to 1966 and was discharged in 1968. Bob earned his B.S. in Accounting from Wilmington College in 1984. He worked at Sun Oil in the accounting department for 21 years and then for Computer Services Corporation for approximately 20 years until his retirement in 2010. Bob was a member of the American Legion Post 507 in Norwood, PA and the VFW Post 6332 in Washington Township, NJ. He was a member of St. John’s United Church of Christ where he served as a trustee, enjoyed teaching Sunday school, and playing bells with the belltones. He also enjoyed golfing, camping, playing cards, and hunting with his family and friends. Bob was always willing and enjoyed helping others.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Tena Mehaffey Keeney, whom he married on October 6, 2010; a daughter, Danielle Quattrone and husband Kelly of NJ; a step-daughter, Jessica Gabler and husband Ken of Chambersburg; two grandchildren, Andie and Riley Boberick of NJ; three sisters; six brothers; and numerous nieces and nephews. Aside from his father, Bob is preceded in death by two brothers, Bill and Joe Keeney.
A funeral service to honor Bob’s life will be held at 1:00 PM on Thursday, December 4, 2014 at St. John’s United Church of Christ, 1811 Lincoln Way East, Chambersburg, PA 17202. Pastor Mark Ruzicka and Rev. Wesley Howsare of Moundsville, WV will officiate. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, December 3, 2014 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA 17202, and one hour prior to the service on Thursday at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. John’s United Church of Christ at the above address.
