Robert J. Maloney, age 86, of Fayetteville, PA, passed away at the Quincy Nursing Home on Tuesday, November 21, 2017. Born in Brooklyn, NY on February 20, 1931, he was the son of the late Patrick J. and Margaret Furlong Maloney.
A U.S. Army veteran, Bob served honorably during the Korean Conflict. He attended St. John’s College, and had worked as an Engineer for AT&T and lastly for Bell Labs, retiring after 40 plus combined years, in 1991. Bob was a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church, the VFW Post 1599, American Legion Post 46 and a former member of the AMVETS Post 224 all in Chambersburg. He enjoyed time with family and friends, golfing, gardening, travelling, photography and electronics. Born a New Yorker, he was an avid NY Yankees and Giants fan.
Surviving is his loving wife of 14 years, Marcelle Jeanne Maloney, whom he married June 21, 2003, four children; Eileen Patricia Maloney of Pottersville, NJ, Kathleen Ann Graham (husband Rodger) of Whippany, NJ, Dennis Michael Maloney (wife Tracy) of Fairfax, VA, and Maureen Ellen Thomas (husband Eric) of Ijamsville, MD; seven step-children, Raymond Treacy (wife Sara) of Bethesda, MD, Ronald Treacy (wife Annette) of Bowie, MD, Rory Treacy (wife Lena) of Boyds, MD, Russell Treacy (wife Sue) of Severn, MD, Marcel Treacy (wife Althea) of Bethesda, MD, and Marianne Treacy of Crofton, MD; eight grandchildren, John, Brian (wife Catherine), Laura, Colin, Kyle (wife Kayleigh), Bridget, Zachary, and Seamus; ten step-grandchildren, Jason, Ben, Samantha, Stephanie, Kristine, Michael, Brandon, Jennifer, Kelly, and Claire; a brother, John P. Maloney (wife Eileen) of New Milford, CT; and brother in law, Joseph Rafferty of Red Bank, NJ. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved first wife in 2001, Joan P. Maloney, a son, Thomas P. Maloney, and sister, Marilyn Rafferty.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Saturday, November 25, 2017, at 2 PM at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 320 Philadelphia Ave., Chambersburg, PA, where the Very Rev. Fr. Luis R. Rodriguez will celebrate. It was Bob’s wish that there is no viewing. Private interment will be in St. Andrew’s Catholic Cemetery at a later date. Arrangements are entrusted to the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, Chambersburg, PA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to the American Cancer Society, 924 N. Colonial Ave., York, PA 17403 or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Pl., Memphis, TN 38105.
