Robert C. Murray, 74, of Chambersburg, PA passed away on May 19, 2015, at home with family. Originally, he was from Ontario, NY, where he was born on December 30, 1941. He was the son of the late Lawrence and Florence Murray of Rochester, NY.
Out of high school Mr. Murray enlisted in the Army on February 19, 1960, and served as an MP for 3 years with a brief tour in Germany. He then attended the New York State Trooper Academy in Syracuse becoming a NY State Trooper. He was stationed in Williamson, New York, where he remained for 21 years, until his first retirement. After retirement, he moved to Sedley, Virginia to be with family and while there he served as a Southampton County Deputy for a couple of years. He then moved to Chambersburg, where he could be close to his favorite place, Gettysburg. He was a big history buff and had book cases full of Gettysburg history. While there, the law enforcement bug bit him again and he came out of retirement to become a Deputy for the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, serving 15 years before retiring. He will be missed by his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Johanna of 50 years, his daughter Tracy Outlaw, son-in-law Mark, son, Scott Murray, daughter-in-law Melanie, daughter, Sharon Baker, three grandsons, Andrew Jones, Ian Kepner, Daniel Jones, four granddaughters, Allison Holyoak, Taylor Murray, Kristin Murray, Jada Baker, and great grandson, Owen Holyoak. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Marsha Billings of Franklin, VA.
A Memorial Service to honor his life will be held on Tuesday, May 26, 2015, at 10 AM in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Rd., Chambersburg, PA; where Rev. Murray Stevens will officiate.
