Robert Ripper, age 77, of Fayetteville, PA, passed away on Saturday, March 19, 2016, at Holy Spirit Hospital, Camp Hill, PA, with his loving family by his side. Born July 16, 1938, in Windber, PA, he was the son of the late John R. and Anna Bartko Ripper.
Mr. Ripper was a 1956 graduate of Adams-Summerhill Senior High School, where he played basketball, football, and baseball and lettered in all three sports. A gifted athlete, Rip played in the 1956 AAABA Baseball tournament for the Hahns Meat Packaging team of Johnstown, PA, where they played in the Championship game. He worked as a systems analyst in the Washington, DC area for 42 years, retiring in 2000. He enjoyed playing golf and going to Washington Redskins games. He was a well-loved husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend. Mr. Ripper was a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Carol Contardi Ripper, whom he married on October 1, 1966; two children, Robert Joseph Ripper (wife Kathy) of Stafford, VA and Renee Madden (husband James) of Alexandria, VA; five grandchildren, Kyle and Kasey Ripper and Emily, Clare, and James Madden and two siblings, Edward Ripper (wife Pua) of Stafford, VA and Ronald Ripper (wife Anita) of Fredericksburg, VA. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Ann Poldiak and a brother, John Ripper.
Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Wednesday, March 23, 2016, at 1 PM at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 320 Philadelphia Ave., Chambersburg, PA, where Rev. Fr. Dominic M. DiBiccaro will celebrate. Inurnment will be private. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, March 22, 2016, from 6 – 8 PM in the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Rd., Chambersburg, PA.
