Robert Schaefer

Robert M. Schaefer, Jr., 81, of Fayetteville, PA, passed away peacefully at his home Thursday afternoon, July 8, 2021. Bob was born July 7, 1940 in Washington, DC. He is survived by his beloved wife, Virginia “Ginny” Goad DeLore Schaefer, whom he married May 29, 1971; eight children, Michael D. DeLore (companion Laurie Cimino), Michael C. Schaefer, Stephen P. DeLore (Deborah), Cheryl Halterman (Companion Terrell Nicoludis), Robin A. Turner (Anthony), Sharon Trutkoff, Daniel J. DeLore (Marie), and Cynthia L. Patarini (Paul); nineteen grandchildren; and sixteen great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his step-brother, Walter W. Curtiss. His mother, Ada May Martyn Kirby preceded him in death.

Bob attended the University of Maryland and was employed as a union electrician with Local Union 26, IBEW in Washington, DC for 43 years. During his career he worked on the light rail system and served as a Foreman and Project Manager. He was honored by the Washington Building Congress as a three time recipient of the Award for Excellent Craftsmanship. He was a member of St. Ignatius Loyola Catholic Church and was a volunteer and Trustee with SNAP at Penn National. He enjoyed archery hunting; golfing; and Motorcross with his sons. He sang with the Penn National Chorus for a number of years and was “Mr. Fixit” in the neighborhood.

A memorial service to celebrate Bob’s life will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, July 24, 2021 in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA. Rev. Fr. Dominic DiBiccaro will officiate. A reception will follow the service. Friends will be received from 10:00 AM until the service begins at 11:00 AM.
