Robert Schwarz

Robert M. “Bud” Schwarz, age 88, of Chambersburg, PA; passed away in his home on May 16, 2012. Born in Chambersburg, PA on August 11, 1923, he was a son of the late Max E. Schwarz and Thesta J. Ward Schwarz. He was the widower of Rita Brown Schwarz, who preceded him in death on November 13, 2001.

Bud was a 1941 graduate of Chambersburg High School, and he served his country with the U.S. Army in World War II. He was a manager at the former Triangle Shoe Store in Chambersburg and retired in 1987 from Mack Truck Inc. in Hagerstown. He had also been employed with Sunnyway Foods and the Butcher Shoppe in Chambersburg. He was a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church, Mason Dixon Corvette Club, Charles Nitterhouse VFW Post 1599, Burt J. Asper American Legion Post 46, Hume McNeil Byers Amvets Post 224, and the AARP. He enjoyed gardening and loyally attended Mass at Corpus Christi.


Surviving are two daughters, Linda Strayer and her husband Ronald, of Fayetteville and Rosemary Smith and her husband, William III, of St. Thomas, one sister, Joan Eby, of Chambersburg; and four grandchildren, Sharon Bitner and her husband, Keith, Patrick Strayer and his wife, Holly, all of Chambersburg, Chad Strayer and his wife, Stacey of Abbottstown, and William W. Smith IV and his wife, Kim, of Mercersburg; nine great grandchildren and one great great grandson. He was preceded in death by his brother, Nelson, and a sister, Jean Schwarz.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1 PM on Monday, May 21, 2012 in Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 320 Philadelphia Ave, Chambersburg, with Rev. Fr. James R. O’Brien officiating. Interment will follow in Corpus Christi Cemetery, with military honors conducted by members of the VFW Post 1599 Honor Guard. The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM on Sunday evening in the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road Chambersburg.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Home Nursing Agency, 761 Fifth Ave., or to American Cancer Society, 384 Floral Ave., both of Chambersburg, PA, 17201.
